18 U.S. Cities So Unappealing, You’ll Never Want to Visit

The United States is a vast country that opens up many places for people to explore, whether they live there or are tourists from afar. There are many cities that a lot of people are desperate to explore because of what they can offer. Whether it’s history, arts and culture, or beautiful nature, that’s not the case for many cities; as is the case with any country, there are places that people will not want to visit at all.

Provo, Utah

Utah is one of the most beautiful places in the United States, and it has fantastic scenery. Unfortunately, Provo isn’t a good example. Many people find it to be a rather boring place with a lack of things to do, which is why many opt not to bother visiting.

San Francisco, California

San Francisco is high on many people’s bucket lists due to its beautiful landscapes and major tourist attractions. However, this city also has a high population of homeless people, and that can lead to people being shocked at the sight. On top of that, San Francisco is exceptionally hilly, making it difficult for people to get around.

Saginaw, Michigan

Saginaw is a location in the United States with a high violent crime rate. While it’s not something everyone considers when considering where they want to visit, people should pay more attention to it, which is why Saginaw should be avoided.

Phoenix, Arizona

Phoenix has a reputation for being a boring location in the United States, and that’s one of the reasons people want to go elsewhere. A beige color scheme could make it more visually appealing, which isn’t exciting to most.

El Paso, Texas

The landscape of El Paso isn’t exciting in the slightest. There’s a lot of bland architecture, which can make it dull for people to walk around, and a lack of exciting attractions stops it from being a place that visitors will want to spend time in.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Oklahoma City is a very spread-out destination, and that’s a big reason for many people to avoid it. Unless someone is willing to travel a lot to reach different places, it might be worth avoiding this one altogether.

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is a popular destination for many people. Being able to take in all of the jazz music or stroll along Bourbon Street, there are many reasons why people would want to check it out. Unfortunately, New Orleans is also a place of high violence, which is a big reason why people opt to avoid it completely.

Jacksonville, Florida

Florida is one of America’s most popular states, with Orlando and Miami often being the cities people choose to visit because there’s so much to do. The same cannot be said for Jacksonville, as there are fewer exciting attractions for people to check out unless they’re lovers of beaches.

Scranton, Pennsylvania

Due to The Office’s popularity, many people might be slightly interested in heading to Scranton, where the show is set. But the entire point the show is trying to push is that Scranton is a boring place to live. That’s often how many people feel once they’ve visited it, which is why people shouldn’t bother.

Lubbock, Texas

Many people want to head to the great state of Texas, as there’s often lots to do there. But Lubbock isn’t a great example of that. Outside of football, it has very little to do, making it a destination that most people wouldn’t find enjoyable.

Fresno, California

People need to consider temperature when picking somewhere to visit, and Fresno’s isn’t the nicest. The extreme heat coupled with the dust doesn’t make this a location that people would tend to enjoy, as it’s not easy to relax in that type of environment.

Daytona Beach, Florida

Daytona Beach is a hotbed for tourism and partying, but that’s not the vibe that everyone is looking for. If people aren’t interested in that, then there’s not much point in heading there because the environment will likely frustrate many people due to the behavior they’ll encounter.

Gary, Indiana

Gary was recently voted one of the worst cities in the United States, and many residents have chosen to leave. This shows that it isn’t a place worth visiting for those who aren’t from there.

Hollywood, California

Hollywood might be the place that everyone sees in the movies as perfect and romantic, but the reality is very different. While checking out the movie studios can be a lot of fun, it is a packed area that can be tough to get around, and the chance of actually bumping into any celebrities is extremely slim. On top of that, because of how many people go there, everything tends to be overpriced.

Bridgeport, Connecticut

Bridgeport has a high crime rate, particularly when it comes to theft. That can be problematic for visitors as they’re not expecting to be concerned about things like that ahead of time, which is why it’s an area to avoid.

Camden, New Jersey

Camden has dealt with serious urban decay over recent decades, leaving it unappealing. People will not rush to check it out, as there is little to draw visitors in unless they’re going with a genuine purpose.

Flint, Michigan

Flint has high poverty rates and isn’t known for its extravagance or flair. It’s easy to see why people would skip visiting this city, as there isn’t much there to entertain visitors. It boasts more negatives than positives.

Port Arthur, Texas

Port Arthur is often considered an ugly city, not offering much for people to look at. It’s also considered to be a place that has a bad smell, mainly due to the oil and gas industries that are booming there, giving people another reason to avoid checking it out.
