18 Instances Boomers Were Right According to ‘Woke’ Millennials

Sometimes, it feels like you’re doomed to fail when boomers and millennials have a conversation Although it might be hard to admit, even the wokest millennials have to admit that boomers really got some stuff right. Today, we’re looking at the 18 things that boomers got right, which even some millennials have to agree with.

Investing in Real Estate

Boomers had it right with their love for real estate, and while many of us deal with rent and dream of owning a home, boomers were busy buying properties. They knew owning a home is a good way to protect your finance. A solid roof over your head also doubles as an investment, which is pretty smart.

Prioritizing Family Time

There was a time when dinner was something you actually sat down for and enjoyed without scrolling through your phone. Boomers really valued their family time, where everyone would gather around the table or pack into the station wagon for a weekend adventure. Many young people are starting to realize that maybe, just maybe, those gadgets can wait.

Saving Money

Buy-now, pay-later is so popular these days, meaning that boomers’ talent for saving is almost revolutionary. They were careful with their pennies and avoided debt to create huge savings that many of us can only dream of. It wouldn’t be so bad if we did the same, as a bit of that save-not-spend attitude could also do wonders for our bank accounts.

Manual Transmissions

Boomers love their stick shifts, and there’s a good reason. Driving a car with a manual transmission gives you a sense of control that helps you feel the drive. Automatics are certainly convenient, but there’s something undeniably cool about mastering the gears. Unfortunately, it’s a skill that’s becoming far too rare.

Valuing Face-to-Face Communication

As great as tex and emails are great, nothing beats a good old-fashioned conversation, face-to-face. Boomers knew the power of a personal conversation meant fewer misunderstandings and stronger bonds. As we struggle with digital conversations, there’s a real magic in real-life interactions that emojis just can’t capture.

The Importance of Hard Work

“Hard work pays off” was just the way that boomers lived because this generation wasn’t afraid of a little elbow grease. After all, their work ethic has built careers and companies. It’s a way of life that’s coming back in style as more millennials are starting to see the value in earning their stripes.

Keeping Physical Albums and Printed Photos

Digital photos are everywhere, although they’ll never compare to the joy of flipping through an actual photo album. Boomers kept shelves of them and made sure to both carefully place and preserve each one. It gave them a real connection to the past that doesn’t need a password or screen. Plus, they’re just more fun to show off when friends come over.

Cooking from Scratch

Microwave meals can’t compare to home-cooked food, and boomers know how to cook from scratch. After all, it’s healthier and a lot better for our wallets, even though many millennials struggle with it. Getting our hands dirty in the kitchen is becoming popular as we all try to eat better and enjoy making a meal.

Sticking to Practical Fashion

Boomers kept their wardrobes simple and functional, but they still looked good. While fast fashion is pretty tempting, there’s something to be said for classic styles that last years, not just seasons. Plus, buying less and choosing well is chic and also eco-friendly. It’s a true win-win situation.

Using Public Libraries

Long before Google, boomers hit the books at public libraries. These places were the perfect location to get free information, quiet study spots, and community centers. In our increasingly digital world, the charm of a library, without the glare of a screen, is something people are starting to appreciate more and more.

Handwriting Personal Notes

There’s a personal touch to a handwritten note that no email can match. Boomers loved writing their thoughts on paper, whether a thank you note or a birthday card. It’s a small act that says a lot and makes a big comeback as we all look for more meaningful ways to connect with those around us.

Enjoying the Great Outdoors

Boomers spent much time outdoors on fishing trips or having garden barbecues, and it seemed they were really onto something. Spending time in nature is a great way to unwind and recharge, which many of us don’t do enough of. Thanks to all that technology, the appeal of being in the wild is greater than ever now, and it’s reminding us to step outside and breathe deep.

Playing Board Games

Before video games took over, board games were the go-to for a fun night in, and games like Monopoly and Scrabble brought people together. Today, we’re starting to play those old games again, as many of us have rediscovered the joy of rolling dice and claiming victory across the board. Video games just can’t compare.

Listening to Vinyl Records

Digital music will never compare to the warm sound of a vinyl record. Boomers have kept their record collections through the years, and now vinyl is having a moment again. We’re not sure if it’s the nostalgia or the rich sound quality. Still, either way, spinning a record is a pleasure that’s going across generations.

Respecting Elders

Boomers were raised to respect their elders because they knew that wisdom and experience came with the years. As we face a world that seems more complicated than ever, conversing with someone who’s been around the block a few times can teach us things we’ll never know ourselves. Lots of millennials are now starting to wake up to this.

Developing DIY Skills

Boomers are the kings and queens of DIY, and they can do any home repair or knitting. There’s a real sense of achievement in doing things yourself, and as we all try to be more self-sufficient, these skills are coming back in a big way. Many millennials recognize it’s a great way to save cash and customize your space.

Choosing Durable Goods

Boomers would buy things for life, which is a far cry from our current culture of disposable products. Thankfully, the idea of buying things that last is catching on again, even among the younger crowd. It’s better for the planet and our finances when we invest in quality that stands the test of time.

Appreciating Classic Movies

Classic movies are a window into different times and storytelling styles you don’t see today. Boomers grew up with these films, and as we explore them, we find timeless lessons and new types of entertainment that CGI just can’t match. There’s a real magic to these old-fashioned flicks.
